Aftermovie Editing

I edit the aftermovie of your festival, party or corporate event from your footage: rhythm, grade and sound, in 16:9 and vertical. Picture and sound in the same hands.

An aftermovie that sells the next edition, not a string of shots on a beat

From event footage to a video people share

An aftermovie is won in the first seconds. If the opening does not carry the atmosphere, nobody sees the rest. My job is to find, in hours of footage, the handful of shots that tell the event, and set them to the music so people wish they had been there.

I do not cut an aftermovie as a string of shots on every beat. I build a rise, let a face or a line breathe, and save the finale for the moment that earned it. Cameras are matched in DaVinci Resolve so the drone, the mirrorless and the phone belong to the same event.

Sound is half of an aftermovie. I mix the music with the room ambience and the speeches in Pro Tools, and clean the interviews in iZotope RX when there are any. Picture and sound in the same hands: one contact, not two vendors passing files back and forth.

I do not film your event, and I do not invent an atmosphere that was not captured. I work with what was shot, and I tell you plainly what we can get from it before I start.

Project highlights

  • Footage logged and tightened to the moments that carry the atmosphere
  • The edit built on the music, with breathing room, not just cuts on the beat
  • Cameras matched to one look in DaVinci Resolve
  • Music, room ambience and speeches mixed together in Pro Tools
  • Interviews and speeches cleaned in iZotope RX
  • A 16:9 cut and a vertical 9:16 cut, reframed rather than cropped down the middle

What you get

  • A graded and mixed 16:9 aftermovie
  • A vertical 9:16 cut for Reels, TikTok and Shorts
  • A short teaser to announce the video, on request
  • Burned-in subtitles if the aftermovie includes speeches
  • Named revision rounds, set in the quote

An aftermovie (or after movie) is a short video that sums up an event once it is over: a festival, party, corporate event, trade show or launch. It usually runs one to three minutes, is cut to music, and exists to let the people who were there relive it and make the next audience want to come. I edit aftermovies from your footage: I log, build the rhythm on the music, grade the cameras in DaVinci Resolve and mix the sound in Pro Tools, then deliver a 16:9 cut and a vertical cut for Reels. I do not film the event: you send the files, I send back the aftermovie, scoped and quoted before I start.

How an aftermovie edit works

From memory cards to the published video

01

Send the footage

You send the original files, the event programme, the moments and speakers not to miss, and the music if you have it. I confirm the versions to deliver and quote before I start.

02

Logging and edit

I log, pick the shots that carry the atmosphere, and build the rhythm on the music. The crowd shot that jumps on the drop stays; the empty-room shots during setup do not.

03

Sound, grade and delivery

I grade, mix the music with the ambience and the speeches, and deliver the 16:9 and vertical cuts. We refine it together over the revision rounds set in the quote.

Tell me about the event

Tell me what was filmed, over how many days, and where the aftermovie will be published. I will tell you what I can make of it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an aftermovie?

A short video, usually one to three minutes, that sums up an event after the fact. It is cut to music and keeps the moments that carry the atmosphere: the crowd, the stage, the faces, one line that stuck. It thanks the people who came and makes the next audience want to be there.

Do you also film the event?

No. I edit, I do not shoot. I work from the footage of your videographer, your team or your agency. If nobody is booked to film yet, you need a videographer on site; I can take the edit afterwards.

How much does an aftermovie cost?

Per project. The price depends on the volume of footage, the number of days filmed, and the versions to deliver: a 16:9 aftermovie alone is not the same work as an aftermovie plus a vertical cut and a teaser. I quote once I have seen a sample.

How long should an aftermovie be?

For social media, one to two minutes is often enough, and the vertical cut works better shorter still. For a multi-day festival or a corporate event with speeches, three or four minutes can work. I suggest a length based on where the video will be published.

What music can we use?

Music whose licence covers online distribution and, for a company, commercial use. An unlicensed commercial song can be muted or blocked by YouTube and Instagram. The simplest options: a track from a licensed music library, or a song by an artist who played the event, with their agreement.

How fast can the aftermovie be ready?

Turnaround depends on the footage volume and the versions requested, and I set it in the quote. If you want to publish while the event is still on people's minds, tell me up front: we can plan a short teaser first, then the full aftermovie.
